Takeout Arcade’s Dragon Siege

May 8, 2013   //   by Ivan   //   MainMenu  //  No Comments

We were recently graced with a visit from Alex Hew and Goh I-Ming, local game developers from Takeout Arcade. They recently completed and launched Dragon Siege which is a Defense game that sets you defending your treasure horde from a horde of heroes out to steal it. Alex Hew is the programmer in charge of the project and Goh I-Ming was the artist behind the beautiful art and animations in the game.

They were kind enough to share some pointers with the students about the many things that could go wrong in the process of developing an iOS game. They also spoke about some techniques that were used in the making of Dragon Siege and answered a whole bunch of questions from students and lecturers.

Before working on Dragon Siege, the dynamic duo were previously working on Medieval Carnival which was also released on the Apple Store.

The Creataquest is over and the results are in. It was a close fight in the form of a presentation to three of our panel judges Mr. Michael Ooi, My. Hilmy Abdul Rahim and Mr. Adam Majid. The students were judged based on their presentations and how viable are their ideas if it were to be made into an actual game. The contest began with a workshop conducted by Mr. Adam and the teams had 10 days to develop their ideas.

The Creataquest Challenge is underway with 7 teams of students from Sri KDU going up against each other in hopes to develop the best game story. So far, they’ve been assigned to design an protagonist, an antagonist, a background for their story to take place in and possibly a scene where a confrontation takes place. Once they’re done, their work will be judged by veteran Game Designer Mr. Michael Ooi and Mr. Hilmy Abdul Rahim and Writer-extraordinaire, Mr. Adam Majid.

Tintoy! Showing Us The Way It’s Done!

Veteran character designer ‘Tintoy’ Chuo recently graced us with a talk on how to create unique characters based on a few tried and tested techniques. We won’t reveal them to you here but you’ll have to find the man himself. His production studio Action Tin Toy Design Laboratory has been involved in creating characters for animation, commercials and games for quite some time so his insights were invaluable to our students especially those that will be designing their own characters for their games very soon.

Once again, KDU would like to thank Mr. Tintoy for spending the afternoon with us!
