We arranged a school trip to Meeples in Subang Jaya. The goal is to give our budding game designer students a taste of other designer board games available to play – and of course, a chance to mingle and laugh with other students and lecturers – and Meeples, the European Board Game Cafe is a good place for it.  Read more >>

Jam Over!

Jan 30, 2012   //   by Ivan   //   MainMenu  //  No Comments

The Global Game Jam 2012 is now officially over and it is time to pass out on the couch but before I do, I thought it best I document this lest I forget.

The Global Game Jam is a worldwide initiative to gather collaborators together and create a game in 48-hours. Representatives from every country gather in their respective outposts and await the unveiling of this year’s theme which was the image of the Ouroboros, a serpent that encircles and grasps its own tail with its mouth.

Organized by IGDA Malaysia Chapter’s coordinator Bazil Akmal and held in our very own KDU Library and AREA51 Game Development Studio, this year saw the development of 5 games by 5 development teams. Our youngest participant was 6 year old Kieran and his two brothers James and Josh proving that age is no barrier to making cool games.

Due to the proximity to Chinese New Year, many could not make it but we were still 23 strong.

Well, this year we managed to pull off 5 games and they are available for download following the links below.

A Pet’s Life – a Tamagotchi like game to evolve pets that live and die only to reborn again.

Galaxy Wars – a game based on two light-sword wielding heroes fighting against Nevron Vader. Art wholly done by a team of young artists.

Rotator – a unique game where you have to escape a rotating prison within a time limit.

Run for your Life! – a cool game where you run through the many stages of life.

The World Eater – a play on the legend of Jormungandr, the Nordic ouroboros. Eat as many planets in a minute.

Buzz kicks off the Game Jam with ground rules and a general introduction to the event. Read more >>
